Finding the Time

It’s 7:17 pm. You just walked in the door after a stressful day with your munchkin in one arm and various bags in the other. You’ve been gone since 6:30 am when you dropped the baby off before work. You still have to make a nutritious dinner for the both of you, clean up so your place can be presentable, go through the mail on the table, give kiddo a bath and read “The Hungry Caterpillar” together, your nightly ritual. You’re exhausted, frustrated, and ready for a change. You want to create a better life for you and especially your baby. You’re tired of the 9-5 grind and want to start your own business. You even know what kind of business it is. But WHERE are you going to find the time? The following are 5 tips that I find helpful to make time in a tight schedule.

1. Meal Prep

Yes, eating the same thing for a few days straight is less than exciting, but setting aside 2 hours on the weekends to prepare and freeze meals can free up 30 minutes to an hour Monday through Friday that you can use to start working on your business idea.

2. Have a “uniform”

Being stylish and fashionable is fun but if you’re trying to create space in your day you may want to either pick out your clothes the night before or have a general idea of what you will wear on a day to day basis. Michael Kors, one of the leading fashion designers to date, ALWAYS wears denim jeans, a black shirt and a black blazer with loafers. He says that this “uniform” allows him to be ready for any dress code and saves time.

3. Make your kid your coworker

You’ve got a built in work buddy! As long as it is allowed, bring your child with you to meetings, classes, etc. It will give your child a living example of discipline and tenacity and also cuts down the need for and cost of babysitting. Set them up with their own “materials” (coloring book and crayons, lol) so they get into the habit of “taking notes”. Your sequel just might be inspired to start their own business as well ;-).

4. Set a timer

Sometimes you literally only have 15 minutes so try to maximize it by being laser focused. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb, turn the tv off, whatever you have to do so that you can FOCUS for those 15 minutes...you’ll be surprised at what you can get accomplished.

5. Reach out
